Municipal Engineer

I took civil engineering at school because math and physics always came easy to me at high school and I wanted a career where I could use that. I also wanted something that would give me a lot of variety and choices later on.  Civil engineering seemed more suited to me than some of the other engineering disciplines because you’re going to see the results of your work all around you every day.  That may sound a bit lame but when you think about it our civil infrastructure is what makes our life so much better in this part of what the world. We have clean water, safe roads and pretty good transportation systems.  It feels good to know that I’m part of all that. I had a lot of choices when I graduated.  I interviewed for one job doing contract administration for a consulting engineer that I probably would have taken to get into the profession but then the city took on three new junior engineers and I was lucky enough to be one of them.  They started me out putting contracts together but then I got two small resurfacing projects to manage and my projects will get bigger as I get more experience.  The work suits me perfectly because it gets me out into the field sometimes and every day is different than the day before.
