They say a good salesperson can sell anything.  I beg to differ.  In my job for sure you have to know how to sell and that’s a whole art of its own but if you don’t understand how construction works you’ll have trouble selling anything in this industry. I didn’t know I was going to end up selling construction sealant products when I took sales courses in college and I know that doesn’t sound like a very exciting thing to do for a career.  But it usually isn’t the product itself that’s exciting, it’s the people you are trying to sell it to and all of the things you need to have in line to be successful that makes it exciting and challenging.  I could just as easily be selling snow plow blades or lubricating oil. I have to know who is going to need our products and when they’re going to need them and then I have to make sure that it’s our product and not the competitor’s that ends up being installed on a project.  For a sales professional I can’t think of any other industry that offers the same level of challenge and satisfaction when the deal all comes together.
