Insulator

I think what I like most about my job is travelling out of town with the crew. I like to be on the road and we do a lot of work up North and places like Sarnia where there are a lot of power plants and big industrial operations.  I’m still single so I really like being in a new town for a couple of weeks. So let’s face it, wrapping pipe with insulation doesn’t sound like the most exciting job in the world but there’s a lot more to it than that.  You have to be good with the tools or you can waste a lot of material when you’re cutting and measuring it.  It isn’t something where you say to yourself ‘hey, my dream is to be an insulator’ – at least it’s something I never really even knew about when I was in high school.  But I had two buddies that got jobs with my company and I didn’t have much of anything going after high school so they got me in too.  I tried a couple of jobs in town but they were never going to be anything more than minimum wage dead ends.  Working as an insulator seemed like a pretty good deal and it was.  The company trained me and the money was great right from the beginning. And it was a lot more interesting than the dead-end jobs I’d been in. I’ve been working three years and I could buy a nice condo right now if I wanted one. How many 25-year-ol guys can say that?
