Roofer (industrial)



Roofers install, repair or replace flat roofs and shingles or other roofing tiles on sloped roofs. Roofers may also waterproof buildings, foundations or other structures. Industrial roofers work on large project such as commercial plazas or large buildings.

Duties:

  • Installing, repairing or replacing roofing systems using various materials
  • Installing, repairing or replacing shingles and other roofing tiles
  • Applying waterproof coating to concrete surfaces
  • Installing and repairing metal roofs using hand and power tools
  • Installing scaffolding to provide safe access to roofs
  • Estimating required materials and costs.

    Apprenticeship is required

  • High school diploma is required
  • Apprenticeship: 4,000 hours-3,520 hours of on-the-job and 480 hours of in-school
  • Roofing is a voluntary trade in Ontario

This is designed to provide the apprentice with theoretical knowledge of all aspects of industrial roofing as well as practical training necessary to complement the apprentice’s on-the-job training experience.
