Purchasing Agent



Coordinates activities involving procuring goods and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, and advertising. They obtain product or service information, price, availability and delivery schedule. Select products for purchase by testing, or examining them. Prepares purchase orders, bid requests, review bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations all while keeping detailed records and inventory.

Duties:

  • Consult with others to determine goods and services requirements
  • Develop strategic purchasing programs that company spending for specific commodities
  • Issue requests for information and proposals, and tendering contracts to ensure that the process is fair, competitive, legal and provides best value for the organization
  • Purchase the right quality and quantity, at the right time and price, from the best source
  • Trace shipments, follow-up undelivered goods, and resolve problems and disputes

Education:

    A high school diploma is required

Education Requirements :

  • A bachelor's degree or college diploma in business administration required
  • Purchasing agents and officers may require a related university degree or college diploma
  • A certificate in purchasing from the Purchasing Management Association of Canada may be required
