Municipal Roads Superintendent



The Roads Supervisor oversees the day-to-day work activities of the roads employees. The incumbent provides a variety of construction, maintenance and repair services to roads, municipal drains, landfill sites, and other municipal infrastructure and operates equipment and machinery on an as required basis.

Duties:

  • Responsible for day to day management of roads and landfill maintenance and operations
  • Manage in organization, scheduling and control of roads operations and services
  • Ensure that health and safety practices are completed by employees and contractors
  • Provide training and guidance to assigned roads crew members on specific tasks and projects
  • Responsible for the timely, effective and efficient completion of assigned tasks
  • Ensures equipment is maintained, and that vehicles and tools are used properly
  • Provide input on Department budget issues
  • Maintain pavement; apply cold patching to fill holes in pavement and other treatment
  • Oversee all winter control operations and carry out specific winter control operations as required
  • Ensure road signs are repaired, replaced or installed as required
  • Responsible for the preparation of reports, tenders and contract administration

The program allows you to choose your own courses and allows you to specialize in the area of Civil Engineering of your choice. Civil engineering is a broad branch of engineering and you are free to specialize in area of Civil Engineering such as structures, hydraulics and eco-hydraulics, transportation systems, flood forecasting, urban storm water management, waste water treatment, water supply, construction management, bioengineering and many more. You can also enhance your degree in water resources, environmental engineering and biomechanics.
