Geomatics Plan Assistant



Geomatics Plan Assistant helps to produce, edit, process, prepare and review survey, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping projects and deliverable for the planning, design, construction and operation of transportation facilities as well as other forms of construction.

Duties:

  • Produce legal and engineering survey drawings, digital models, cross sections and alignments from field notes
  • Producing Engineering Records using plans, as-constructed drawings, digital maps, and other data
  • Creating time estimates by researching plans, documents, compiling various information
  • Archiving plans, alignments, cross-sections and other data sets into file management systems

Skills:

  • Interpret survey data from survey field notes, to determine relevant field measurements
  • Analyzing skills to identify isolate and correct errors in 3-dimensional ground models
  • Evaluating skills to determine if consultant deliverables are acceptable and meet standards
  • Make decisions regarding deliverables from consultants for accuracy, content, and conformity with legislation
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and multi-tasking

Education:

    A high school diploma is required

Education Requirements :

  • Completion of a 2-3 year college program in geomatics is required for survey technologists
  • Completion of a 1-2 year college program in geomatics is required for survey technicians
  • Certification by provincial associations (OACETT) may be required

Program Description:

As a graduate of this program, you will be capable of collecting, organizing, and managing geographic data using state-of-the-art technology like GPS, remote sensing, and surveying tools to collect, mine, store, manipulate, and communicate geographic information- skills that can be applied to virtually any discipline such as urban planning, engineering, or crime investigation. One-to-one student to computer ratio in our new geomatics labs using the most currect operating systems used in the industry today.

Program Description:

This program focuses on geomatics, surveying and mapping, navigation, sensors, and measurements to assist in building a strong foundation in the discipline.  Students will take Geodesy, Surveying, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Measurement Theory and Estimation, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and other programs. Survey Law and Land Registration Systems,  3D Techniques, various software  and Advanced Field Surveys courses. You will learn and use advanced state-of-the-art instruments.
