Estimator



Estimators determine the costs of various construction projects. Estimators work for construction companies, construction contractors or may be self-employed. They determine materials, trades and time required to build structures, buildings or roadways. Estimators determine cost for structural, electrical, civil or mechanical construction projects.

Duties:

  • Prepare cost estimates of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects
  • Manage and coordinate construction projects, schedules and contract negotiations
  • Completing working payments and invoicing
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
  • Manage and co-ordinate construction projects, and prepare construction progress schedules

Education Requirements :

  • Completion of high is required
  • Completion of a three-year college program in civil or construction engineering technology or several years of experience as a qualified tradesperson in construction

Program Description:

In the Civil/Construction Engineering Technology diploma program you gain education in civil engineering theory, combined with practical work in laboratories and in the field. You become familiar with the structural properties of timber, steel, masonry and concrete and study the design of roads, buildings, structures water distribution and sewage and drainage systems.
