Drywall Finisher



Drywall install and finish drywall sheets and types of ceiling systems. Plasterers apply finish and restore plaster or other materials on interior and exterior walls, ceilings and other surfaces.

Duties:

  • Measuring, cutting and fitting drywall sheets for installation on walls and ceilings
  • Positioning and securing drywall sheet to metal or wooden studs
  • Filling joints, holes and cracks with compound
  • Applying, smoothing and leveling compound and sanding over dry compound
  • Spraying coats of stucco over the exteriors of building to form weather proof surfaces
  • Cleaning and preparing surfaces
  • Cutting openings in lath for heating and ventilation piping, ducts and electrical outlets

  • Problem solving skills to provide solutions to challenges

Education:

    A high school diploma is required

Education Requirements :

  • Apprenticeship: 5400 hours-4920 on-the-job and 480 hours in-school
  • A drywall installer/plasterer is a voluntary trade in Ontario

Program Description:

This 16-week program provides theory and hands-on training in the drywall/interior finishes field including industrial, commercial, and residential applications. This program will provide foundation drywall installation skills with an emphasis on general and specific safety training.  This program will be delivered through a combination of theory (50%) and hands-on work (50%) taking place in a lab, shop, or onsite.
