Cement/Concrete Finisher



Concrete Finishers smooth and finish freshly poured concrete. They install, maintain and restore floors, ceilings, sidewalks and roads. They are employed by construction companies, contractors and manufacturers. Some concrete finishers are self-employed, contracting their services for smaller projects.

Duties:

  • Read and interpret documents, work with numbers to perform calculations
  • Leveling top surface of concrete drives, curbs or sidewalks
  • Operating a power tools to compress concrete apply and seal concrete surface
  • Waterproofing and restoring concrete
  • Installing fixtures into freshly poured concrete

Education:

    A high school diploma is required

Education Requirements :

  • Completion of Apprenticeship: 4980-4500 on the job and 480 in school
  • Trade certification is voluntary in Ontario

Program Description:

Concrete finishers should be in good shape. They read and follow blueprints and instructions and measure and mix substances accurately. It’s a good idea to get some general experience in and knowledge about the construction industry, this will help you become familiar with construction methods and procedures.  Formal certification as a concrete finisher isn’t a requirement.  Most employers or unions may require Grade 12 English, Math and Technology high school courses would be helpful.
